Books, Books and more Books…

I love Books! And oh, how I love to read.  I have a rather nice Collection of Very Vintage as well as Miniature Books.

One favorite is:

THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF BENJAMIN FRANKLIN. – (Born 1706)  I found a Condensed Reader’s Digest version printed in 1989.  It includes parts One, Two and Three which includes his early life until 1757.  It also includes an Introduction by  Bruce Bliven.  What a wonderful man he was…  printer, author, philosopher, statesman, scientist, and inventor.  The First Self-made American

Franklin formed a PLAN for regulating his future conduct in life.  He was convinced Truth, Sincerity and Integrity are of the utmost importance and formed written resolutions to practice each. He explored 13 virtues.  He did not attempt all 13 at once but decided the best way was one at a time.  Later, I will explore those as well.

This next book has the all-time best description of my deepest feelings for my Love of Books.  The location is Barcelona, Spain –  the story is of a rare Book dealer…. thanks Allison for introducing me to this Great Read!

The Cemetery of Forgotten Books

“Every book, every volume you see here, has a soul. The soul of the person who wrote it and of those who read it and lived and dreamed with it. Every time a book changes hands, every time someone runs his eyes down its pages, its spirit grows and strengthens… When a library disappears, or a bookshop closes down, when a book is consigned to oblivion, those of us who knows this place, its guardians, make sure that it gets here. In this place, books no longer remembered by anyone, books that are lost in time, live forever, waiting for the day when they will reach a new reader’s hands. In the shop we buy and sell them, but in truth books have no owner. Every book you see here has been somebody’s best friend… now they have only us.”

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon

Sherlock Holmes  has been a very good friend for many years.  A favorite time in my life was as member of a group devoted to the study of anything Sherlockian, I would costume as Mrs. Hudson for special events.

Jack Reacher Series by lee Child  is just for Pure Fun!

Agent Pendergast Series by Preston & Child (wonderful character – especially interesting is The Cabinet of Curiosities)

HISTORY (Travel), World ART & MUSIC  are always a great way for in depth studies of all areas combined with my special interests.
